This week (Wednesday evening) we've got the second in a series of monthly spoken word events which
Nine Lives Poetry are running in the cafe. Last month's was their first one and it was fab - I particularly loved the poetry by the multi award winning Glasgow poet
Kevin Gilday who was political - and angry - in parts ... and great with words. He had his book with him
Sad Songs for White Boys - highly recommended.
In the book's intro he says: "Poetry is not recommended as a career choice to any right minded individual, but if - like me - you have an affliction that demands you express yourself loudly (and in public), then it is the most liberating form of communication in the world". And it certainly felt that way when he performed!
So we're looking forward to the next night of poetry, this week, where Nine Lives have
Elizabeth McGeown and Sheffield poet
Pete Green lined up to perform on Wednesday. I'm sure there will be more great Open Mike performances again too. (And if you would like to perform, there's a page on the Nine Lives website you can use
here).
It's open to everyone, there's a very friendly and inclusive feel to the evening which is expertly compered by Tom and Kate. You can enjoy a drink from the bar while you get your poetry fix. Tickets are available to book
here.
In celebration of so much great spoken word activity going on in the cafe, we've added a dedicated poetry page to our website
here. And also one for our
lego, showcasing some of the amazing builds that happened at Family lego on Sunday, and one for our
repair cafe too. So I hope that helps you navigate to the bit of our evens program that interests them the most!
More links to upcoming events are included below - as ever, I hope something there appeals to you.
With best wishes
Sophy
PS update on Tim's Slog - Tim from the Archer Project has done his final blog - he finished day 15 at St John's church in Ranmoor. His daily blogs of his 14 day sleep out have been very moving and he has - amazingly - managed to raise over £10,000 so far. He will be delighted - but if you'd like to give too, you can add to the donations
